Indigenous Mental Health Services
Indigenous Mental Health Services are available for aboriginal and metis people 16
years of age and over who are facing mental health issues.
The program aims at providing services that are culturally safe for the indigenous
clients. Our holistic approach promotes spiritual, emotional, mental and physical
Our First Nations, Metis and Inuit Mental Health Counsellor (FNMI Counsellor) will
integrate contemporary interventions with a traditional cultural healing approach.
Service options that respect your values and beliefs will be provided to you.
The FNMI Counsellor can offer assistance in the following areas:
Referral to health and community resources, including cultural/traditional healing
Help to understand and navigate the health care system
Frequent reasons people seek services:
Depression and Anxiety
Past or recent trauma
Suicidal ideation and self-harm
Intense reaction to a loss
After an initial assessment, the FNMI Counsellor will determine with you your goals
and plan for your recovery.
